Finding the right wedding venue can sometimes feel like a mission. But, trust us, when you have this beast ticked off your wedding to-do list, you will feel great.

Before booking your venue, we strongly recommend doing a site tour to ensure it’s the right fit for you. Most wedding venues offer complimentary site tours by appointment and host regular Open Days. Remember, most venues will book out 1-2 years in advance. So you want to make this a priority.

To help you make the final decision, here are eight things to ask during the wedding venue site inspection.

Have they got your date available?

If you have your heart set on a specific date, we suggest you check with the wedding venue if they have your date available before you book your site inspection. Clarifying availability will save you from wasting your time and feeling disappointed.

Is the venue providing a coordinator?

Having a coordinator on your wedding day is a game-changer! Handing over the responsibility to a wedding pro will save you and your family so much stress on the day. Ask your venue if they provide a wedding coordinator as part of their packages. If not, you may want to consider the extra cost of booking an outside coordinator to help you on the day.

What does the venue include in the price?

Ask your venue to go through all the inclusions. For example, is furniture, decor, and food included, or is this an extra cost? Look out for any hidden extras to avoid pricey surprises.

Can you bring outside suppliers?

Discuss with the venue if they are happy to work with outside vendors or if you have to pick vendors from their recommended supplier list. Ask if there is anything particular you need to know before booking outside suppliers.

What is their cancellation/postponement procedure?

The current season has taught us to be mindful of cancellation policies and postponement procedures. Speak to your venue about these procedures before signing the dotted line.

Can you get ready onsite?

Some venues offer a space for the couple to get ready before the ceremony begins. Getting prepared onsite can help ensure your wedding start on time and save you money on additional accommodation and transportation.

How many guests can the venue cater?

Before booking your site tour, do a quick mockup guestlist to know how many guests you expect at your wedding. Then, during the venue tour, ask the venue how many people they can comfortably accommodate.

Is there a curfew?

Many wedding venues can only operate until 10 pm, often due to council restrictions. Check with your venue what time you will have to finish your event. If you are lucky enough, your venue may be able to offer midnight extensions for an additional fee.
